Shibori Indigo Dyeing
Posted by Helen | 04/09/2017 | A Handmade Tale

This summer I had the pleasure of dyeing some fabric with friends using a shibori method and indigo dye. I took loads of photos and I have had this post planned for some time now, but it took some time to get the pics edited. I wanted to share the methods we used and the results we got from them in case you try indigo dyeing in the future! We had so much fun (and worked our butts off) dyeing 4 pieces of fabric each! There wasn't much information online for dyeing large pieces of fabric and it comes with its own...

Happy Wednesday! This week I am feeling super jazzed about the podcast and my upcoming pattern projects! I am also totally feeling like I am ready for some cooler fall weather and I'm planning my fall and winter sewing! Are you starting to think about your next makes? I think I want to focus on some sewing challenges this season. It will likely mean fewer items sewn, but tackling more complex projects like jeans, a raincoat, and maybe even a few bras! I can't wait to get started. News (clockwise from top left) Jennifer Lauren Handmade released the Mayberry Dress....

When I first heard that the Sewcialist August challenge was to pay tribute to a fellow sewist, I knew that I wanted to join in! Trouble is, I follow so many sewists who inspire me every day and I was really dragging my butt deciding. Finally, Caroline and I interviewed Katie from What Katie Sews for the Love to Sew podcast and I knew exactly who I should pick - duh - Katie! This summer I got together with Caroline and Tasia for some Shibori Indigo Dyeing! We had such a blast and I have a full post coming your way soon with all the details about the methods and fabrics we used. Today I have my first completed Shibori project to share, this Suki Kimono I made to wear at the beach. I love having a nice cover-up at the beach because I burn SO easily. I planned to make a beach Suki from the very beginning and after we did our dyeing it was clearly a perfect match. This year on...
